The Aegean sea merges with the Mediterranean by Turkey’s southwestern coasts, and Kaş is located on this meeting point.

Kaş is about 100 miles (190 km) to the west of the Antalya province of Turkey. Accessed by flying into Dalaman (DLM) or Antalya (AYT) Airports, this ancient Lycian town used to be a small fishing town until it was discovered by divers, yachtsmen, and holiday-goers. Its natural beauty is still unspoiled, and it’s a favorite location for scuba divers and yachtsmen from all around the world.

Kaş is famous for its vivid underwater life, rocky coastline, cool crystal clear waters. There are more than 15 dive centers and diving schools offering diving trips to the 50 dive spots in the vicinity.

### 1\. Küçük Çakıl Plajı / Little Pebble Beach

Kaş is a beautiful summer town with beautiful bougainvillea-covered narrow streets, artsy shops, cafes and bars, and local fish restaurants. But it’s a harbor town, not a beach resort.

There are two main beaches in the center of the town, and as the name suggests, this pebbly beach is the smaller one. Maybe the smallest beach around.

The two pebbly beaches, **Küçük Çakıl** and **Büyük Çakıl** (the second beach on our list) are the only beaches to swim within the center of Kaş for those who like to walk into the sea rather than jumping from rocks or platforms.

Küçük Çakıl beach is just a ten-minute walk away from the harbor. It’s the closest beach to the town center, and it’s the best one in Kaş for children.

Rocks and platforms surround this small, enclosed beach; we might as well call it a cove. It’s not visible from the road, so look for the wooden sign that’ll lead you to the beach.

### 2\. Büyük Çakıl Plajı / Big Pebble Beach

Büyük Çakıl beach is the larger of the two pebbly beaches closest to the center. It’s the best beach to sunbathe and swim comfortably in close vicinity to the town center. There’s even some sand at one end of the beach.

You can walk, hitchhike, take a minibus or a taxi to get to the beach from the town center. It’s 13.5 miles (2.5km) from Kaş harbor; it takes 7 minutes by car and about 25 minutes if you walk.

There are cafes and restaurants on the beach. Ada Beach is the oldest facility owned by a sweet local family, and you can use their sunbeds and beach umbrellas for free if you order from their café or restaurant.

There are also a few bungalows to spend the night right on the beach, for about $50 USD per night. Make sure you make an early reservation.

### 3\. İnceboğaz / Çınar Beach

Also called Çınar Beach, İnceboğaz sits on the way to the Çukurbağ peninsula in Kaş. It’s a 5-minute drive from the harbor, and you can take a minibus to get there.

It’s right across the marina. The sea is calm and warm with a shallow entrance, and there are white pebbles on the beach, which makes it perfect for children.

You can rent a sunbed and beach umbrella for about $5.00 USD and order food and drinks from the beach café.

### 4\. Kaş Halk Plajı / Kaş Public Beach

This public beach is right behind İnceboğaz; the road to the Çukurbağ peninsula runs in between the two beaches. It’s also called Belediye Plajı (Municipality Beach) as the facilities are run by Kaş municipality.

There are sunbeds and beach umbrellas for rent; there’s a restaurant right behind the beach, and a playground for children.

The beach is the same as in İnceboğaz, perfect for swimming with children in turquoise waters.

### 5\. Limanağzı Beach

This beach is 20 minutes away from the Kaş harbor by car, and it’s a bit harder to reach. So, taking a boat to this beach might be more comfortable. But swimming here and snorkeling among Caretta Caretta turtles in these clear waters is definitely worth the trouble.

There are large pebbles on the beach; the sea entrance is shallow and suitable for kids. There are restaurants and facilities on this beach.

### 6\. Akçagerme Beach

This is by far the best beach in Kaş for children. Here, the sea is warm and calm; the beach is longer than the others on the list; the entrance is pebbly and shallow.

There’s also an aqua park, tennis courts, sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, and a restaurant with reasonable prices. The beach is also wheelchair accessible.

It’s 2.5 miles (4km) away from Kaş town center, only 7 minutes by car, and you can take a minibus there.

### 7\. Kaputaş Beach

Kaputaş Beach is the most famous beach in the area. It lies under the coastal road, in between cliffs. That’s why it’s also called Mavi Mağara (the Blue Cave). You reach the beach from the road by taking 187 steps on a steep staircase.

Kaputaş Beach is 13 miles away from Kaş town center, and that’s about a 25-minute ride. It’s actually closer to the Kalkan neighborhood than Kaş. It’s 2.5 miles away from Kalkan, only a 5-minute ride. You can hop on a minibus commuting between Kaş and Kalkan to get to the beach.

Kaputaş is a small, sandy beach open to the winds, so the sea is always wavy. The sea gets deep instantly, and there are strong waves. Thus, this beach is not the best place to swim comfortably.

It’s also not very safe for children. But the turquoise waters bubbling with waves are a fascinating sight to see.

Facilities on the beach are run by the local municipality. There is a cafe, changing rooms, bathrooms, and showers on the beach as well as rental sunbeds and beach umbrellas.

### 8\. Kalkan Beach

Kalkan is another smaller town in the district, about 15.5 miles (30 minutes) away from Kaş town center.

To the left of the Kalkan harbor, there’s a blue-flagged white pebble beach with crystal clear water. It’s perfect for swimming and snorkeling and safe for children. There are facilities at the beach, changing cabins, toilets, and rental sunbeds.

There are restaurants, shops, and cafes just 2 minutes away from the beach. But this public beach is relatively small and gets very busy in summer.

How to Get to Kaş

The town of Kaş is easily accessible by flying into Dalaman Airport (DLM) or Antalya Airport (AYT) followed by a private shuttle or bus transfer (2-3 hours). The Best Ways to Get Around in Istanbul

### 1\. On Foot

The best way to explore Istanbul is on foot; however, you can’t explore all of Istanbul this way.

Tourists should plan to get around Istanbul on foot as much as possible to see more of the city and its rich culture.

You’ll see more of the city and its people on foot than by any other mode of transportation.

Walk along the Bosphorus Bridge, wander the old roads of the Grand Bazaar, and plan a day on foot at Sultanahmet, where you can see Topkapı Palace and the Hagia Sophia.

[Istanbul is safe](/posts/is-istanbul-safe) for you to go around on foot, as long as you avoid dark alleys or wandering late at night. Keep an eye on your belongings [to avoid pickpockets](/posts/common-tourist-scams-istanbul) in Sultanahmet.

Wear proper walking shoes to the Grand Bazaar. The winding streets aren’t all paved and can easily catch a high heel. Wear low wedges or flat, comfortable walking shoes to avoid tripping down one of the city’s hills.

### 2\. Tram

Although walking is the best way to get around Istanbul, it isn’t always practical. Few people have the time or energy to walk the length of the city, especially if they’re booked for a Turkish hammam.

The best form of transit in Istanbul is the tram. There are 4 tram lines in Istanbul. You’ll likely rely on Bağcılar-Kabataş (T1), which serves the city’s main sights, like the Galata Tower. Istanbul’s trams are just as nice as any European tram.

Print an [Istanbul tram map](https://istanbulmap360.com/istanbul-tram-map) ahead of time, as stops don’t always have them listed. It’ll help you find stops and know which line to take. Trams are great options for budget travelers.

### 3\. Metro

[Istanbul has the third oldest metro in the world](https://www.traveltalktours.com/ca/interesting-facts-istanbul/), but you wouldn’t know that from riding it. 

The city’s metro is a comfortable way to get around. It runs from all corners of the city, even outside of the tourist districts.

This is a great way to get into [the city center](/posts/where-to-stay-in-istanbul) from a hotel on the outskirts of the city. You can even ride beneath the Bosphorus continental divide with the Marmaray Rail Tunnel.

The metro is a great discount way to get from the city center to the Istanbul Airport (IST). Planned for August 2021, the M11 line [will connect the airport to the city center in just 35 minutes](https://www.dailysabah.com/business/transportation/performance-tests-to-start-on-high-speed-metro-line-to-istanbul-airport). Although the stops are more spaced out than the tram or bus stops, Istanbul’s metro is one of the few ways you can avoid the city’s rush hour traffic. At 8 am and 6 pm, traffic comes to a standstill above ground. Go below the ground to avoid the slower transit above the ground.

### 4\. Bus

The Istanbul bus network is the most extensive transit in the city. Although it runs to more locations than the tram or the metro, it has one major problem: space.

Due to the heavy traffic and designated bus lanes, people pack the buses to their limits. You may find yourself squished against strangers or struggling to get off past the mass of people.

Avoid the buses during rush hour times to maintain your personal space. The buses run outside of rush hour, from 6 am to midnight.

Although the buses go around the city, they aren’t a great way to take in any sights. You’ll spend most of your time focused on the coming stops, as the Istanbul buses don’t announce them.

### 5\. Ferry or Seabus

Riding the ferry or the sea bus is one of the best ways to get around Istanbul.

Not only do the water vehicles avoid heavy rush hour traffic, but they also offer stunning views of the Bosphorus and Istanbul’s skylines.

There are several ports along the city’s shores used by both tourists and commuters. Keep your Istanbulkart handy to get discounted tickets, like a ride to Princes’ Island for 5.50 TL. You can even get a two-hour Bosphorus tour for 12 TL or a full-day adventure for 25 TL.

Not only does the ferry offer one of the most unique views of the city, but it’s also one of the cheapest tours you can find. Avoid the overpriced and scammy Bosphorus tours offered near the pier of Eminönü and opt for the affordable tour offered by the municipality.

### 6\. Taxi

Taxis are usually one of the best ways to get around a city, but not in Istanbul. Here, taxis are [one of the biggest tourist scams in the country](/posts/common-taxi-scams-turkey). Unfortunately, Istanbul’s taxi drivers continue two ruses meant to overcharge tourists. 

Be careful of taxi drivers who claim their meter is broken, as they’ll give you a massively overpriced charge at the end of your journey. Don’t let your taxi driver take you sightseeing. They may try to take you on the scenic route or to see a particular place, meanwhile, they’re running their meter up to charge you more.

To get a safe taxi, ask your hotel to call one for you. Taxis are less likely to [try to scam you](/posts/common-tourist-scams-istanbul) if they are looking for the hotel’s repeat business.

You can also use the popular Turkish app [BiTaksi](http://www.bitaksi.com/en/) (available in English) to find trusted taxis to take you around the city. Avoid taxis during rush hour, as road times can triple, and so will your fee.

Cars are the worst way to get around Istanbul.

Here are four reasons why:

*   Istanbul has some of the worst traffic in the world
*   Road signs are in Turkish
*   Istanbul has almost no parking

While driving is a great way to get around Turkey, it is not the best way to get around Istanbul. You’ll spend more time in your car than seeing the city’s sights. 

Between parking issues, traffic jams throughout the day, getting lost, and not understanding Turkish drivers’ inability to respect the rules of the road, you’ll quickly come to agree. Istanbul is not a city for driving.

Skip the car for your Istanbul trip and stick to public transport when you need to get somewhere further away.

The fee is lower if you register for your Visa online. Save time and money by pre-booking your visa and printing a copy for immigration.

### 3\. Turkish Food Is More Than Kebabs

When you think of Turkish food, you probably think of kebabs and maybe baklava. But there’s so [much more to Turkish cuisine](/posts/best-vegetarian-turkish-dishes) than those.

Prepare for your tastebuds to be wowed at the arrays of spices and the succulence of the dishes. You’ll find the best exchange rate at banks or currency conversion offices in the city. Airport conversion offices overcharge, so you’re better off waiting until you’re in the city.

The custom extends to you as the guest, where you are expected to accept the offer for tea and drink it to show your appreciation. If you don’t drink the tea, you are insulting the giver.

### 5\. Cheek Kisses are a Common Greeting

In Turkey, handshakes are reserved for strangers. You greet your friends with kisses on the cheek, much like you would in France or Eastern Europe. Sometimes, people combine the two and use your handshake to pull you in for the kisses.

Don’t be surprised if your guide or a vendor greet you this way, as they are trying to convey their friendliness.

Turkey experiences all four seasons throughout the country. You’ll find snow in Istanbul from January to February, and hot temperatures in Fethiye in July.

Depending on the establishment, toilet paper may or may not be present, but don't expect to flush it down the drain. See to the side of the toilet for a bin where the paper waste goes.

If you're traveling by bus or to rural areas, you may notice squatting toilets. These are holes in the ground with a place to stand. After you’ve used the toilet, you are expected to rinse off the area with a bucket and water from the tap beside the toilet.

Bring your toilet paper, as many bathrooms don’t have it available or overcharge for it.

### 8\. Street Animals Are Common

Turkey is [filled with dogs and cats](/posts/why-cats-istanbul), maybe more so than people. You’ll find stray animals on the street in every city you visit in Turkey. Most people buy bottled water in Turkey. It is common for locals and tourists to stay away from the tap water except for brushing teeth and cooking.

That’s why we gathered a list of the beaches in Turkey and give you a detailed review of each of them.

Surrounded by the sea on three sides and [brimming with various tourist attractions](/posts/how-to-spend-24-hours-in-istanbul), Turkey is an excellent choice for a summer vacation. The Aegean and Mediterranean coastlines offer pristine beaches, six of which are on this list.

Three of these beaches are located in the city of Muğla in the Aegean region of Turkey, and the other three are in Antalya in the Mediterranean region.

### 1\. Blue Lagoon / Ölüdeniz, Fethiye, Muğla

Blue Lagoon is probably the most famous beach in Turkey. Its breathtaking beauty attracts thousands of tourists every year, causing long queues at the entrance. This turquoise watered surreal beach is within a preserved national park. The still, warm sea and the pool-like sandy bay is perfect for children.

Do you want to see this world-famous lagoon, but prefer swimming in a deeper sea with more waves? Or maybe you just don’t want to wait in line under the sun to take a dip in the cool water.

Don’t worry, Belcekız Beach awaits for you, right before the Blue Lagoon. The water is just as beautiful. You can also try paragliding from the pine-covered Babadağ mountain onto the beach.

Ölüdeniz district is also the warmest part of Muğla. So if you want to avoid the high season crowds, you can choose September or October to make the trip and still enjoy the sun and the sea.

Ölüdeniz and Belcekız are also the liveliest beaches on the list, with lots of entertainment options right behind them. The beach bars, cafes, and restaurants on the coast offer live music until late October. Hotels in the area also organize special events in their bars, and they are mostly open to the public.

### 2\. Butterfly Valley / Kelebekler Vadisi, Fethiye, Muğla

This is another breathtaking turquoise beach in Turkey. The hippie-vibed valley is visited by not only hundreds of tourists but also butterflies, giving the place its name. But their numbers seem to be decreasing as the number of tourists rises, so please respect mother nature and her wildlife!

The easiest way to access the beach is by boat from Ölüdeniz. On a cruise, you’ll be given around an hour to swim and explore the valley.

The land on the valley is privately owned, and there’s an entrance fee. So if it’s not the butterfly season, you can skip the tour and enjoy the deep blue sea.

The beach has heavy boat traffic during the summer. In some parts of the beach, there are plates of rocks on the sea surface.

So, with a sudden drop in depth and waves from the boats, this is not the safest place for children. If you want to swim comfortably, you need to get away from the boats as much as possible.

Although not recommended, the beach is also accessible from land, through a very steep hike. If you aren’t an experienced climber with the right gear, it’s best left to avoid this route and enjoy the cruises. The cruises also give you the chance to see some other amazing beaches and bays around.

### 3\. Kaputaş Beach, Kaş, Antalya

Kaputaş Beach is a small turquoise gemstone hidden beneath two forested cliffs under the coastal road between two coastal towns, Kaş and Kalkan. Taking a steep staircase of 187 steps, you can reach the sandy coast and enjoy the foamy waves breaking and ebbing away. It’s definitely worth it!

Keep in mind that this small beach might be packed during high season. The sea temperature is generally low around the Kaş region, which is widely preferred by divers. So don’t expect warm water that you can relax in.

Though a wonderful view to look at, the sea is less than ideal for swimming. It gets very deep very quickly, and there are strong waves. So if you’re not a good swimmer, be careful.

A quick dip in the sea will refresh you, but most people cannot stay in the water long as swimming against the waves gets tiring. Needless to say, it’s not safe for children without supervision.

There used to be no facilities on the beach. But as it got more and more attention from tourists, the municipality decided to provide service there. Now, there is a cafe, changing rooms, bathrooms, and showers on the beach, so you don’t have to pack food and drinks for longer stays.

### 4\. İztuzu Beach, Dalyan, Muğla

İztuzu Beach is a 4.5-kilometer sandy beach that gives a postcard-like view to the beholder. It’s in all of the top ten lists of the best beaches in Turkey.

The golden sands of the beach constitute a natural border between the sea and the freshwater delta. It’s a unique view to look at, and you might enjoy taking a long walk along the beach.

İztuzu beach is also the nesting spot for Caretta Carettas, the loggerhead turtles in Turkey. That’s why the beach is closed at night, and there are strict rules on how to use the beach.

For example, no beach umbrellas are allowed in most parts as the sharp end that gets in the sand might break the eggs. However, there are facilities near the entrance.

This long beach never feels too crowded. It’s open to winds, so the sea gets wavy, but the water is shallow. So you can play with your children in the sea, jumping over the waves. It’s also perfect for sunbathing.

You can access the beach by land. But if you want to get the full delta view and explore the area further, you can take a boat trip to the beach from the nearest town, Dalyan.

Boat-trips are a must-do in the Dalyan Delta to explore the ancient ruins of Kaunos and the magical canals of the delta flowing through the beautiful villas and gardens of the town.

### 5\. Olympos, Çıralı, Antalya

You should definitely have a pair of hiking sandals for this long bay! Olympos is a preserved natural hippie haven.

Staying in Olympos, to enter the beach, you need to take a hike through an open-air museum in the forest, full of ancient ruins. So you need to pay a daily entrance fee 30 TRY ($4.00 USD), but you can also get a three-day pass or a weekly pass.

The beach’s covered with large pebbles; so, pack your water shoes as well. There’s no establishment on the coast. So you might want to pack your lunch, water, and beverages if you plan to spend the day on the beach. It’s also closed at night to preserve the Caretta Caretta nests.

The boho culture rules Olympos with the tents, wooden bungalows, tree houses, and bars playing gypsy & Balkan music. Çıralı district, situated on the other end of the beach, is more suitable for families as there are more comfortable accommodation options.

The region is also home to Chimera or _Yanartaş_, an eternal flame burning in rocks. It’s best enjoyed during the night. You can hop on a sight-seeing tractor from Olympos to the Chimera site in Çıralı, paying a small fare around 10 TRY (around $1.30 USD).

There’s also a 10 TRY (around $1.30 USD) entrance fee to the Chimera. From there, you need to take a steep hike uphill to see Chimera. 

People usually bring a bottle of wine with them to enjoy the night. They form a line and climb the steep hill in the dark, holding hands.

You can also rent lanterns or flashlights for the climb at the entrance. The rental fee is 5TRY (around $0.60 USD), but you give 25 TRY (around $3.20 USD) including the deposit, and get 20 TRY (around $2.60 USD) back when you return the lantern.

### 6\. Patara, Kaş, Antalya

Patara is the longest beach in Turkey with 18 kilometers of sand, with dunes along the way. It’s only natural that it’s in almost all the top ten lists, as this beach makes almost any kind of beachgoer happy.

Patara is perfect for swimming and sunbathing, suitable for children as well. You can make sandcastles and have fun throughout the day. The sea entrance is shallow, occasionally wavy with the winds.

The beach is 140 miles (3 hours 15 min)  away from Antalya city center, 128 miles (2 hours 45 min)  from Muğla, and 71 miles (1 hour 45 min) away from Dalaman Airport. You can always book a tour from any part of both cities to visit the world-famous beach.

You can access the beach by land. There are facilities near the main entrance, so you don’t need to worry about bringing food and beverages.

If you want to be away from the crowds, just walk along the beach to find a private spot. This beach is also a nesting area for the Caretta Caretta turtles, so be careful not to stick any sharp objects like parasols into the sand.

If you don’t want to spend the whole day in the sea, visit the magnificent ruins of the ancient Lycian city right behind the dunes. The beach entrance fee of 30 TRY ($4.00 USD) includes the visit to the ruins.

When it comes to Turkish cuisine, everyone knows about the famous _kebabs_. But there are also many delicious vegetarian and vegan options in Turkish cuisine for those who do not eat meat or animal products. Here's a list of the best vegetarian Turkish dishes that are most commonly cooked in every household in Turkey, and served in most restaurants. 

Most of the delicious dishes on this list are also suitable for vegans. We'll start with snacks and starters, then move on to the main dishes. You can have some of these foods for breakfast as well.

And some starters can replace a meal when you're sitting at a _kebapçı_ (kebab shop), or a restaurant with no vegetarian meal options. We hope you try and enjoy all of them.

### 1\. Gözleme / Turkish Quesadilla

Gözleme is often translated as "pancake", but it's actually more like a Turkish quesadilla. _Yufka_, a very thin sheet of dough, is filled with food like cheese, spinach, potato, eggplant, or almost anything you can think of. Then it's cooked on a griddle. It's delicious and great for breakfast or a light lunch.

As vegetarian options, you can go for a _peynirli_ (cottage cheese & onions), _kaşarlı_ (melted yellow cheese), _patatesli_ (potato), _otlu peynirli_ (cheese & seasonal herbs, plants, and vegetables like chard or spinach cooked with onions), _patlıcanlı_ (eggplant & onions) _gözleme_. You can always ask for a combination of whatever fillings they have available.

You can find gözleme in bakeries, pastry shops, cafes, roadhouses, or buy them from stalls at markets, the seaside, or [around tourist attractions](/posts/how-to-spend-24-hours-in-istanbul) in [small touristic towns](/posts/best-beaches-kas). They go best with Turkish black tea or _ayran_ (yogurt drink) and usually served with sliced tomatoes and cucumbers.

### 2\. Kısır / Turkish Bulgur Wheat Salad

_Kısır_ is a flavourful bulgur salad that can be eaten as a meal of its own or as _meze (_hors d'oeuvre__). It's made from fine bulgur, pepper and tomato pastes, salt, pepper flakes, garlic, pomegranate molasses, lemon juice, tomatoes, scallions, or spring onions, pickles, other herbs and spices like fresh mints and cumin. It's one of those dishes that's made differently in every household or region.

It's healthy, tasty, easy to make, and filling. You can find it in some restaurants served as an hors d'oeuvre or at the salad bar. The best time to have this dish is Spring or Summer since you can find fresh ingredients during those months.

### 3\. Çorba / Soup

Turkish people can make soup with almost anything! That's why, if you are a vegetarian or a vegan, you need to be careful while ordering soup at a restaurant.

Although most soups in Turkish cuisine are suitable for vegetarians and vegans, some vegetable or legume soups can be made using broth or stock, or eggs. So, always ask about the ingredients before you order soup.

Vegetarians should ask if the soup is made with _et suyu_ (broth from red meat) or _tavuk suyu (broth from chicken)._ Vegans should also ask about the _terbiye_ of the soup, the egg yolk and lemon sauce added to the soup.

And, now, some of the best vegetarian Turkish soups: _Sebze çorbası_ (vegetable soup usually made from zucchini, carrots, celery, potatoes, onions, and garlic), _mercimek çorbası_ or _Ezogelin çorbası_ (both lentil soups), _tarhana çorbası_ (a traditional soup made of sun-dried mixture of yogurt, tomato, paprika, flour and herbs, and spices), _yayla_ or _yoğurt_ _çorbası_ (yogurt soup with rice or wheat), domates _çorbası_ (tomato soup), _mantar çorbası_ (mushroom soup).

Turkish people usually have their soup as a starter, so it can be found in most restaurants. You can also order half a portion saying "_yarım çorba_" or "_az çorba_" if you'd like to try the same but feel like it's too much for one meal. In some parts of Turkey, people also have soup for breakfast in winter.

### 4\. Dolma / Stuffed Vegetables & Yaprak Sarma / Vine Leaf Rice Rolls

_Dolma_ is a vegetable dish, generally made by stuffing zucchini, bell peppers, eggplants, or tomatoes with a rice filling. The filling sometimes has meat in it, so ask before you order. If you see "_zeytinyağlı_" before the name of the dish, it means it's made with olive oil to be served cold, so it usually doesn't contain any meat. So, go for "_zeytinyağlı dolma_" to be safe.

_Yaprak Sarma_ is made by wrapping vine leaves around a rice filling. This dish is best enjoyed with a few drops of lemon juice. These tasty rolls are usually served as appetizers or hors d'oeuvre. Sometimes mulberry leaves are also used instead of vine leaves.

The filling used for dolma and sarma traditionally includes rice, onions, and spices. When made to be served cold and without any meat, people usually add currants, pine nuts, and some cinnamon for a slightly sweet flavor to _zeytinyağlı dolma_. In some regions of Turkey, people use bulgur with or instead of rice, and pomegranate molasses as a sauce.

### 5\. Taze Fasulye / Fresh Green Beans

This is a delicious dish made from fresh green beans, onions, garlic, and tomatoes. The olive oil adds this simple dish zest, so you should taste _zeytinyağlı taze fasülye_ if you can. _Pirinç pilavı_ (rice) or _bulgur pilavı_ (bulgur dish) usually accompany beans as a side dish in Turkey. Some people also prefer to eat green beans with some yogurt.

This main dish is also a part of _hors d'oeuvre_ plates in Turkey. Sometimes green beans are also cooked with meat when served hot during the winter.

### 6\. Kuru Fasulye / White Bean Stew

### 7\. Imam Bayıldı / Stuffed Eggplant Dish

Imam Bayıldı literally means "the imam fainted". As the legend goes, the name comes from an imam (a Muslim worship leader) that fainted twice because of this dish! Once after he learned that his wife had used all the olive oil for just one dish, and once after tasting the dish and seeing how delicious it was!

This is a dish of flat eggplants stuffed with tomatoes, onions, garlic, and herbs and spices, cooked in olive oil and served cold with freshly cut parsley sprinkled on the top.

This dish is also served with rice or bulgur. Cacık (made with yogurt, water, cucumbers, mint, olive oil, and occasionally garlic) also goes well with eggplant dishes in Turkish cuisine.

### 8\. Sebze Güveç / Vegetable Casserole

Savory fresh vegetables cooked in earthenware casserole dishes. This dish is usually made from zucchini, carrots, mushrooms, potatoes, peas or green beans, onions, and garlic. The ingredients may vary according to the season, but the taste never fails to amaze!

“Afiyet olsun” is a Turkish phrase meaning, “Enjoy your meal” in general terms. But it’s said both before and after a meal in Turkey because it literally means “may you be healthy,” meaning “I hope this food gives you health.”
